That's not very common in a song that's had so much success (even without the album being released in the States yet). The eruption happened so quickly that people were mummified almost instantly, which is described in the line: “In your pose as the dust … We were left in charge of ourselves, and we have no progress,"nothing to show". And if you close your eyes, does it almost feel like you've been squids before However, for me, intuitively, interpreting it on the relationship-level does make more sense.
