i was introduced to Mastodon during the Dethalbum II tour with High on Fire, Converge, Mastodon, Dethklok, and the Mastodon part they played through this album from beginning to end, so I have a strong bias towards this album as far as their whole catalog goes. But you don't get tired of the songs because they all contain Powerfull instrumentation and good vocals and a solid rhythm section that underpins the structure of the songs and holds the songs together .

If you were a fan of Mastodon around the era of Remission then this album is a big change, the band have progressed from the Remission sound to Blood and Thunder's fast thrash-esque style, Blood Mountain's experimental prog metal stylings and finally Crack the Skye's ambient yet still heavy dream like sound. The álbum sounds so mucho better on Vinyl, you could heard any little Bit of percussion, every single note on each riff organizaciones any single beat from drums and What its Moré important: the bass its more present in the mix than in the Digital version. I hope that one day some label committed to audio quality will reissue it because these generic editions ruin everything. Very unique of Mastodons other works. Despite never listening to Mastodon prior to Crack the Skye's release, I heard such good things about their fourth full-length effort I just had to check it out for myself. Got the álbum on Cd previously to have a turntable so nos that I've got one I started my lp collection with this one. If you have the CD with DVD making of doc, you'll know that the band heard a sort of classic rock, 70s, Yes, Prog, Ozzy vibe to this one and followed their muse in that direction.
