Daniel then approaches Luce after "hearing" his name and asks Luce what Molly said. His investigations into the dark sciences led him to Unicron, to whom he gave himself. Daniel takes Luce to a hidden-away lake area, where they both swim together before resting on a nearby rock. Stanton and Jonesy arrive to arrest Hobbes; however, Jonesy kills Stanton, revealing himself to be possessed by Azazel. Then the statue breaks and starts falling towards them. The battle outside is over, with no victor. Hobbes meets up with Gretta again and mentions the name to her, but she strongly urges him to drop the case to protect his life and the lives of his friends and family. On Daniel's private records, it had claimed that Daniel had spent most of his life in an orphanage. Fallen, the first in the Fallen series was released in 9 December 2009.Torment, the sequel to Fallen, was released on 28 September 2010. Luce explains that she is a vegetarian, simply because she does not like the taste of meat.
Daniel seems concerned, and takes Luce to cool down outside. Cam takes Luce on a date outside of the school grounds. Once they are safe indoors, Miss Sophia reveals herself to be one of the 24 Elders of Zhsmaelim, a radical heavenly sect that is interested in finally tipping the balance between good and evil (by making Daniel choose a side).
At the party, Cam greets Luce warmly. Back in the library, Luce bonds with Miss Sophia. It soon comes to light that Luce was not baptised in this lifetime, so if she dies, she will not be reincarnated. This simultaneously relieves and embarrasses Luce for being so upfront about the situation. A battle between the angels commences, and the school librarian, Miss Sophia, leads Luce and Penn (the only mortals) away from the battle. During one of her classes on ancient angelic myths, Molly taunts Luce, and makes a connection between the name "Lucifer" and "Luce", angering Luce. Hobbes then smokes cigarettes which he explains have been laced with poison, the same poison that Azazel used to kill his brother, which will leave Azazel stranded in the wilderness without a host. Azazel prepares to shoot himself, which will allow him to possess Hobbes, the only other person for miles around. That evening, Luce visits the library, where she meets Miss Sophia, a grey-haired librarian. It debuted at number 1 on the New York Times Bestseller List (Fallen came in that week at number 2), remaining at that position through the week of October 17. Luce is shocked and confused at this, but sees him watch her as she leaves for her class. Before the party, the students of Sword and Cross are encouraged to watch a film as part of a social practice. Another Shadow attacks her and Todd, and Luce blacks out.
The third book in the Fallen series, entitled Passion, was released on June 14, 2011. Fallen is a 2016 American romantic fantasy drama film directed by Scott Hicks, based on Lauren Kate’s 2009 novel of same name. Here, Luce encounters another Shadow, which she manages to "pinch" out of her pocket. It is revealed that Daniel is cursed to love Luce. In Fallen, Luce was sent to Sword & Cross when she was suspected of being involved in an incident with a mysterious fire, killing her crush, Trevor. There, she meets Penn, the daughter of the school's deceased groundskeeper who explains that she chooses to stay at the school because she has nowhere else to go. Later, Luce overhears Daniel and Gabbe suggestively whispering to each other outside, leading Luce to believe that they are in a relationship and making her jealous. Luce is sent to 'Sword and Cross', a reform school for young adults, after she is blamed for the death of Trevor, a boy that Luce once had a small crush on. She hopes that with Luce dead and gone for good, Daniel would be force to choose a side. She then sees Daniel sitting by a window with a sketchbook and approaches him. When Primus and Unicron first battled as planets, Primus created the first 13 Transformers to assist him in planet mode.
This alarms Luce, but she dismisses it as something explainable. Randy breaks up the fight, and gives Luce, Arriane and Molly a detention in the school cemetery for the following day.
Daniel notices Luce staring at him, and begins to smile back at her before raising his middle finger at her in an aggressive gesture. Arriane's shock band on her wrist goes off, causing her to convulse violently, scaring Luce. The next day, Luce is late for her detention at the cemetery, annoying the rest of the group which consists of Arriane, Molly, Roland, and—much to Luce's surprise—Daniel. The film tells the story of John Hobbes, a Philadelphia police detective who is investigating murders committed by an apparent copycat killer.
